03 Oct Black History Month Launch at The Winns
There has been a real buzz around school this week as we kicked off Black History Month with assemblies across all year groups, launching what promises to be an action-packed month of learning and celebration. Children explored the fascinating stories of key figures in British public life—heroes and role models whose achievements continue to inspire. We also reflected on the Windrush generation, recognising both the struggles they faced and the many contributions they made to British society.
In class, pupils have been introduced to the award-winning poet Alex Wharton, whose work with the BookTrust champions greater representation of people of colour in children’s literature. His poetry has already sparked some wonderful discussions and creativity. Looking ahead, we have theatre performances, workshops, carnival and author visits to enjoy. And of course, we’ll be donning our aprons and rolling up our sleeves to cook and taste delicious Caribbean and African cuisine… mmmm, we can’t wait!
Please also keep a note in your diaries for something extra special in Friday 24th October at morning drop off.
