27 Sep Year 6 Street Art Walking Trail
This week and next, our Year 6 classes are embarking on an exciting walking trail around Walthamstow, discovering the vibrant and dynamic world of street art right in our local area. From world-renowned works to hidden gems, the trail takes the children on an adventure through creativity, culture, and local history.
Some of the artwork featuring on the tour includes Bonners Fish Bar, home to a rare and iconic piece by the elusive artist Banksy. Students were thrilled to see this famous work up close, discussing Banksy’s distinct style and the social messages behind his street art.
Next on the trail is the captivating Two Foxes mural by Irony & Boe, a duo known for their lifelike, larger-than-life animal portraits. The children admired the intricate detail and vivid colours of the foxes, blending into the urban landscape while offering a powerful connection to nature in the heart of Walthamstow.
A highlight of the tour is visiting Angry Dan’s workshop in Hatherley Mews. Known for his playful, rhyming illustrations and whimsical murals, Angry Dan welcomed the students inside to see his latest projects and talked about the inspiration behind his distinctive, cartoon-like style. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain insights into the process of street art creation and the passion that drives artists like Dan.
The final stop was the striking Run mural on Forest Road, a massive, colourful piece filled with energy and movement. The students were in awe of the scale and boldness of the mural, learning how street art can turn an ordinary wall into a masterpiece that brightens up the community.
The trail was a memorable experience for all in 6PB, and we look forward to seeing what creative ideas it sparks in our budding young artists, as well giving 6ES the chance to experience the art work first hand next week!
