05 Dec The Winns Achieves UNICEF’s Rights Respecting School Silver Award
We are delighted to share the wonderful news that The Winns Primary School has been awarded the UNICEF Silver Rights Respecting School Award. This is a significant achievement that recognises the hard work of our whole school community in promoting children’s rights and creating an environment where every child feels valued, listened to and respected.
The UNICEF Rights Respecting programme is built on the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Achieving the Silver Award means that children’s rights are not only taught but are actively lived throughout the school. It shows that our pupils understand their rights, respect the rights of others and play a meaningful role in creating a positive school culture.
Over the past two years, we have worked steadily towards this recognition. Our classes have embedded regular discussions about rights into lessons; we have strengthened pupil voice through school council, class charters and leadership roles; and we have focused on building respectful relationships across the school. Staff have used the language of rights in behaviour conversations, restorative practice and curriculum planning, helping children understand fairness, equity and responsibility. A special thanks goes out to Rights Respecting Lead, Miss Summers who has been instrumental in laying the foundations for this fantastic achievement and working to support children, staff and families along the way.
We are extremely proud of this achievement and will continue working towards the Gold Award in the future.
