Our vision is to create a whole school culture which actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion for all, and eliminates any conscious and unconscious bias among the school and wider community.
The Winns Primary School is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff and parents/carers which is free from discrimination, prejudice or harassment regardless of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, age and socio-economic background.
The school’s culture strives to continue to develop the inclusion and diversity in which all individuals connected to our school feels proud of their identity and ability to fully participate in all aspects of school life. We feel, as educators, we play a crucial role in eliminating all forms of discrimination that The Winns Primary School recognises exists in society currently.
We promote equality and diversity through challenging any discrimination and educating our pupils across a wide variety of topics without prejudice.
At The Winns Primary School we believe and demonstrate that diversity is a strength to be respected and celebrated by all those connected to our school.
1. All learners are of equal value
2. We recognise and respect differences.
3. We foster positive attitudes and relationships and a shared sense of cohesion and belonging.
4. We observe good equalities practice in staff recruitment, retention and development.
5. We aim to reduce and remove inequalities and barriers that already exist.
6. We have the highest expectations of our children.
The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination based on protected characteristics. Every person has several of the protected characteristics, so the Act protects everyone against unfair treatment. In order to ensure that all pupils are protected from discrimination, the school collects information on protected characteristics.
The Governing Body will:
· Ensure that the equality information and objectives as set out in this statement are published and communicated throughout the school, including to staff, pupils and parents, and that they are reviewed and updated every year.
· Delegate responsibility for monitoring the achievement of the objectives on a daily basis to the Headteacher.
The Headteacher will:
· Promote knowledge and understanding of the equality objectives amongst staff and pupils.
· Monitor success in achieving the objectives and report back to Governors.

At The Winns Primary, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers, irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, religion or socio-economic background. In order to further support pupils, raise standards and ensure inclusive teaching, we have set the following objectives:
Objective 1: To monitor and analyse pupil achievement by race, gender and disability and act on any trends or patterns in the data that require additional support for pupils to raise levels of attainment and progress.
Objective 2: To remove the barriers to learning for pupils with SEND and ensure that their progress is in line with other children.
Objective 3: To continue to promote understanding and respect for equality and diversity.
Objective 4: To regularly update the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion calendar to reflect important equality, diversity and inclusion dates across each academic year.
Back in September 2022, the school created an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion working group, made up of staff and parents.
The working group meet at various intervals, focusing on the following strands:
– Curriculum
– Parental/ Child’s voice
– Website
– Employment – Attraction, retention and support
– Visitors, visits and broadening horizons
– Staff Development.
We have developed a diversity, inclusion and awareness calendar to highlight important equality, diversity and inclusion dates that occur throughout the year, including holy days, religious festivals, health and well-being awareness days, as well as specific education-focused equality events. These dates will be highlighted through our curriculum, assemblies, in class discussions and through visits and visitors. Please click the image below to find out more.
